LS10: Fear, Risk and Courage
Leadership involves being one of the first people who, motivated
by knowledge of present conditions and pressing need, is
willing to venture into some aspect of the unknown. The unknown
is often a scary place, and many people tend to allow time
to dissipate the unknowns. But then the opportunity for leadership
has been given up to somebody else. When there are unknowns,
there is risk. To the extent a leader is aware of risk, there
is attendant fear. When there is willingness and determination
to act in spite of fear, there is courage. This learning
module explores courage as a key ingredient of leadership
in a two-day residential retreat setting.
